Brass threaded inserts are used for easy removal of the artistic top piece. Many artists make the tops and let people chose which base they like: stainless Whiskey, brass Whiskey, Niles bottle opener, Niles Tab lifter, etc.
The inside thread is 3/8″ x 16 tpi that will match all of my products. Drill either a 31/64″ hole 3/4″ deep. You can either use a rubber mallet or put a cone live center in the tailstock and turn the wheel to push the insert into the wood. These inserts and the Stainless inserts we make, solve the problem of tear out of the threads in certain wood species. You still may have to use glue with some soft or punky woods. *Note: The brass inserts are imported and you may experience not being able to thread a stopper or opener all the way in; use a 3/8″ x 16 tpi tap, run it down the insert to clean the threading all the way through.

I tried to tap and thread the pin holes on the blank with another vendor’s “fix all” kit. BIG MISTAKE! Constant blow outs and stripped threads and a whole bunch of frustration. I contacted Ruth and she suggested the inserts, which I tried. Success for sure! I drill my pilot hole, put a touch of Epoxy on the insert and use a small rubber mallet to install them. Works great and my past issues are just that, past. If they sit a bit proud a quick slide on 150 grit sandpaper cleans them right up. Best part is I can offer a certain stopper and the customer can choose the turned top they want by simply unscrewing the top from the stopper. I’ve just finished three stoppers and have two more to go and all will be used using these inserts. You can’t go wrong.

I had fought with wood blanks trying to tap threads into soft and hard wood and have had minimal luck to say the least. Your threaded inserts make creating bottle stoppers easy and help give them that quality finish.

The inserts are Great for wood! easy to install and stick very well. For acrylic not so good. The teeth don’t stick too well in acrylic. I just glue them in. Other than that inserts are well worth the cost.

I have to be honest and say I’m not enthusiastic about brass threaded inserts. Whenever I’ve used them I drill a 7/16 hole and push them in as instructed. When I put the blank on a mandrel it holds fine during turning but I have a heck of a time getting them off the mandrel. They often strip the wood and don’t go back in properly.

Your materials are top notch. The last order was my second time ordering and wanted to try some of your bottle stopper pieces. The bottle opener design has fetched great feedback so far. One comment I have is on the brass threaded inserts. The first time using them, I may not have drilled deep enough into the stabilized burl I was using and when the insert was pressed in, it squeezed the end together making it impossible to fully thread the bottle opener in. I remedied the situation by turning an accent spacer piece to take up the un-engaged thread space. I learn something new every time. Thank you for putting out a quality product. I’ll surely be back for more orders
