More professional artists prefer this style because it is the most efficient stopper on the market.
Shaped like the corks used for thousands of years it fits a larger variety of bottles than any tapered style. The inside of bottles do not taper. With a little twist putting it in the bottle, it creates a beautiful friction fit. As you can see in the picture, 2 of the 4 o-rings make contact with the inside of the bottle to form a tighter seal. With the tapered stoppers, only 1 o-ring can possibly seal any bottle only forming a tight seal in the select brands it fits.
The stainless cork stopper “stands” so your artwork is displayed on a shelf when not in use. It is heavier and more balanced than the tapered styles.
This style is used for wood, pottery, polymer clay, ceramics, antique door knobs and golf balls.
The 3/8″ x 16 tpi threaded stud is 1/2″ high with superior threading and machined as one piece.
Top diameter of the stopper is 13/16″, precision machined, FDA food compliant 304 18-8 stainless steel; o-rings are FDA food contact nitrile.
If you use any of my mandrels for turning stoppers, there is no need for a tap, the mandrels are self tapping in most wood. Using a regular tap is recommended for very dense wood and acrylic as these tend to chip. Click: Mandrel Comparison
