This stopper is preferred by more professional artists and it is the most efficient stainless stopper on the market. It fits Wine (cork and screw top), Balsamic vinegar, oil (see photo) and almost all screw top liquor bottles. With a little twist as you’re pushing it in the bottle, it creates a beautiful friction fit. As you can see in the picture 2 of the 4 o-rings make contact with the inside of the bottle to form a tighter seal. With a tapered stopper only 1 o-ring will make contact inside of the bottle.
This stopper stands so your artwork can be displayed when it is not in a bottle. It is heavier and more balanced with larger wood tops. This style is also available in brass, BR-9000.
Used with wood, pottery, polymer clay, ceramics, antique door knobs and golf balls.
The 3/8″ x 16 tpi threaded stud is 1/2″ high with superior threading and machined as one piece.
Top diameter of the stopper is 13/16″ and is 1 1/4″ tall (less the threaded stud).

For your actual stoppers, the SS-9000 has been the best general purpose bottle stopper, working in most wine bottles and many other bottles. The SS-8000 fits in wine bottles more easily, but doesn’t seem as secure. The Cosmopolitan SS Whiskey works only for some of the larger hard alcohol bottles, but doesn’t fit some of the larger and smaller varieties. I like the look of the SS-9000 the best. I do wish the SS-9000 was *just* a hair smaller in diameter – I’m talking about 3/1000 of an inch less, to make it fit into wine bottle slightly easier while still being secure.

I gave away most of them as gifts over Christmas but did keep a couple of stoppers for my own use. The gift recipients seemed suitably impressed with both my turned handles and the stoppers and openers. The bottle openers always caused some discussion because of the uniqueness of the mechanism. It had to be demonstrated to some before they could either fathom how to apply it or that it could work. I was amused each time by people’s reactions.
I can report that the stoppers that I kept for myself, used on more than one occasion to stopper an almost full wine bottle lying on its side in the fridge, have proven to be always leak free.

Hands down, Ruth Niles bottle stoppers are the best. Why? Stainless doesn’t chip, rust, or discolor. The machining is beautiful and nicely polished. The O rings form a perfect seal and are very rugged. Her prices can’t be beaten. She ships incredibly fast and packs like your mom. Personally, I use the brass inserts coupled with the stainless stoppers. Why fuss with trying to tap wood, which has a tendency to strip and cause problems. Use a brass insert and you’ll never have a problem with the stainless stopper coming loose or pulling out of the wood. Plus with brass inserts the user can unscrew and swap wooden tops.

They are beautiful to look at and a joy to construct the stopper with your hardware.
I also have your mandrel. Again the milling of that is just excellent. It fits my lathe perfectly, is quality metal and the self cutting threads are a treat to use.

The Whisky stoppers fit the larger bottles and go down to the last O-ring, like Woodford Reserve. Other bourbon bottles go to the 2nd ring. That is fine with me, although they show 2 or 3 O-rings.
